Savitr (Sun)
ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः। तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं। भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि। धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्॥
Om Bhur Bhuvah Svah, Tat Savitur Varenyam, Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi, Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat
Sharpens intellect, dissolves mental fog, cultivates inner light and discernment.
Shiva
ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्। उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात्॥
Om Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam, Urvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat
Called the moksha mantra — deep physical healing, releases fear of death, restores vitality.
Shiva
ॐ नमः शिवाय
Om Namah Shivaya
Dissolves ego, brings deep stillness, purifies the five elements within.
Ganesha
ॐ गं गणपतये नमः
Om Gam Ganapataye Namah
Clears blockages before any new venture, opens paths, grants wisdom to act.
Lakshmi
ॐ श्रीं महालक्ष्म्यै नमः
Om Shreem Mahalakshmiyei Namah
Attracts prosperity of every kind — material, emotional, spiritual.
The Self (Atman)

So Hum
The easiest entry to deep meditation. Calms nervous system in minutes.
Avalokiteshvara
ॐ मणि पद्मे हूँ
Om Mani Padme Hum
Opens the heart, softens judgement, cultivates universal love.
Krishna & Rama
हरे कृष्ण हरे कृष्ण कृष्ण कृष्ण हरे हरे। हरे राम हरे राम राम राम हरे हरे॥
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare
Lifts depression, floods the heart with bhakti (devotion), induces spontaneous joy.
Brahman (The Absolute)

Aligns body-mind with cosmic rhythm. The seed of every other mantra.
Universal
ॐ सह नाववतु। सह नौ भुनक्तु। सह वीर्यं करवावहै। तेजस्वि नावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै॥ ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः॥
Om Saha Naavavatu, Saha Nau Bhunaktu, Saha Viryam Karavaavahai, Tejasvi Naavadhitamastu Maa Vidvishaavahai. Om Shantih Shantih Shantih
Restores harmony in relationships, ends inner conflict, seals a practice.
Kali
ॐ क्रीं कालिकायै नमः
Om Kreem Kalikayai Namah
Burns away what no longer serves, gives fierce courage in dark passages.
Saraswati
ॐ ऐं सरस्वत्यै नमः
Om Aim Saraswatyai Namah
Sharpens memory, opens creative flow, aids students and artists.
Vishnu (Narayana)
ॐ नमो नारायणाय
Om Namo Naraayanaaya
Called the Ashtakshara (eight-syllable) mantra. Deep surrender, dissolves fear, protective for travel and sleep, calms the nervous system, and connects the practitioner to cosmic sustenance.
Mangala (Mars)
ॐ अङ्गारकाय नमः
Om Angaarakaaya Namah
Converts blocked anger into productive force. Chanted before difficult conversations, athletic performance, and when confidence has been eroded.
Krishna (Vasudeva)
ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय
Om Namo Bhagavate Vaasudevaaya
The Dvadashakshara (twelve-syllable) mantra. Bhagavata Purana calls it the supreme mantra of the age. Lifts depression, awakens bhakti, purifies past karma, and grants moksha.
Rama
श्री राम जय राम जय जय राम
Shri Raam Jai Raam Jai Jai Raam
The Tarak Mantra given by Shiva to Parvati. Steadies a scattered mind, is chanted by walking sages, and is said to ferry the soul across the ocean of samsara.
Sita & Rama
सीता राम
Seetaa Raam
Heals partnerships, invites balance between giving and receiving, and softens hardened hearts. Excellent for couples to chant together.
Durga
ॐ दुं दुर्गायै नमः
Om Dum Durgaayai Namah
Shields against unseen harm, breaks patterns of self-sabotage, and awakens the warrior within. Especially powerful during transitions and when facing hostility.
Kali
ॐ क्रीं कालिकायै नमः
Om Kreem Kaalikaayai Namah
For anyone at the edge of a great change — divorce, death, ego collapse. She burns what is not real so what is real may live.
Mahalakshmi
ॐ श्रीं ह्रीं क्लीं महालक्ष्म्यै नमः
Om Shreem Hreem Kleem Mahaalakshmyai Namah
Opens doors to material and spiritual wealth. Traditional for Friday practice, Diwali, and starting new ventures. Cultivates the receptive heart that wealth flows into.
Kubera
ॐ यक्षाय कुबेराय वैश्रवणाय धनधान्याधिपतये धनधान्यसमृद्धिं मे देहि दापय स्वाहा
Om Yakshaaya Kuberaaya Vaishravanaaya Dhanadhaanyaadhipataye Dhanadhaanyasamriddhim Me Dehi Daapaya Svaahaa
Chanted for financial stability, career growth, and to clear the shame around receiving money. Especially strong on Akshaya Tritiya and Dhanteras.
Saraswati
ॐ ऐं सरस्वत्यै नमः
Om Aim Saraswatyai Namah
For students before exams, artists before creating, and anyone whose voice has been silenced. Purifies speech and awakens the throat centre.
Ganesha
ॐ गं गणपतये नमः
Om Gam Ganapataye Namah
Chant at the beginning of any project, journey, or study session. Ganesha is worshipped first in every ritual — this is why.
Hanuman
ॐ हं हनुमते नमः
Om Ham Hanumate Namah
Removes fear of the unknown, strengthens the body, protects against psychic attack, and awakens selfless service. Traditional Tuesday and Saturday practice.
Surya (Sun)
ॐ सूर्याय नमः
Om Suuryaaya Namah
Chanted at sunrise, often with Surya Namaskar. Lifts winter depression, strengthens the heart and eyes, builds self-worth and leadership presence.
Chandra (Moon)
ॐ सोम सोमाय नमः
Om Soma Somaaya Namah
Soothes overheated emotions, heals the mother-wound, restores hormonal balance, and cools an overworked mind. Excellent bedtime chant.
Shiva (short Mrityunjaya)
ॐ जूं सः माम् पालय पालय
Om Joom Sah Maam Paalaya Paalaya
The kavach form of the healing mantra. Used in medical emergencies, before surgery, and to hold a loved one in a healing field. Faster to chant than the full Mahamrityunjaya.
Shiva (Rig Vedic)
त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्
Tryambakam Yajaamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam
The opening lines of the Mahamrityunjaya. When the full mantra feels long, this half carries the essence: to ripen fully before falling.
Savitr (Sun of Consciousness)
भूर्भुवः स्वः तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्
Bhoor Bhuvah Svah Tat Savitur Varenyam Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayaat
Called the mother of the Vedas. Purifies the intellect, dissolves confusion, and steadies the mind for meditation. Chanted at the three sandhyas (dawn, noon, dusk).
The Self (Atman)
हंसः सोऽहम्
Hamsah So'ham
Ajapa japa — the mantra that repeats itself with breath. Sa on inhale, Ham on exhale. 21,600 times a day, effortlessly. Deepen it consciously and awareness stabilises.
Shiva (Panchakshara)
ॐ नमः शिवाय शिवाय नमः ॐ
Om Namah Shivaaya Shivaaya Namah Om
Chanted forwards and backwards to dissolve the illusion of direction, doer, and doing. A complete sadhana on its own.
Batuka Bhairava
ॐ ह्रीं बटुकाय आपदुद्धारणाय कुरु कुरु बटुकाय ह्रीं ॐ नमः शिवाय
Om Hreem Batukaaya Aapaduddhaaranaaya Kuru Kuru Batukaaya Hreem Om Namah Shivaaya
Recited when facing legal trouble, hostile people, or nightmares. Bhairava is the guardian of thresholds; call him at doorways.
Annapurna
ॐ ह्रीं श्रीं क्लीं नमो भगवति माहेश्वरि अन्नपूर्णे स्वाहा
Om Hreem Shreem Kleem Namo Bhagavati Maheshvari Annapoorne Svaahaa
For anyone with an eating disorder, financial food-anxiety, or the wish to cook with love. Chant before meals to make food sacred.
Vishnu
ॐ नारायणाय विद्महे वासुदेवाय धीमहि तन्नो विष्णुः प्रचोदयात्
Om Naaraayanaaya Vidmahe Vaasudevaaya Dheemahi Tanno Vishnuh Prachodayaat
The Vishnu Gayatri. Restores rhythm to a life that has lost its centre. Chanted during Ekadashi and to sustain long-term projects.
Tripura Sundari
ॐ ऐं ह्रीं श्रीं
Om Aim Hreem Shreem
The concentrated seed of Sri Vidya. Balances learning, grace and abundance. Recommended by traditional teachers for those unable to memorise longer mantras.
Chamunda (Devi Kavach)
ॐ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं चामुण्डायै विच्चे
Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chaamundaayai Vichche
The mantra of the Durga Saptashati. Awakens the fierce, protective aspect of the Goddess within. Recited nightly during Navratri.
Mahalakshmi
नमस्तेस्तु महामाये श्रीपीठे सुरपूजिते
Namastestu Mahaamaaye Shreepeethe Surapoojite
Opening of the Mahalakshmi Ashtakam by Indra. Chant when you have received something and wish to express gratitude that becomes more receiving.
Dhanvantari
ॐ श्री धन्वन्तरे नमः
Om Shree Dhanvantre Namah
The healing mantra of Ayurveda. Chanted before taking medicine, before surgery, and by practitioners before treating patients.
The Divine (all forms)
त्वमेव माता च पिता त्वमेव
Twameva Maataa cha Pitaa Twameva
The prayer of ultimate refuge. Chant in grief, in loneliness, at the loss of a parent. It gives back what was taken.
The Real (Brahman)
असतो मा सद्गमय । तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय । मृत्योर्मा अमृतं गमय ।
Asato Maa Sadgamaya, Tamaso Maa Jyotirgamaya, Mrityor Maa Amritam Gamaya
The Pavamana Mantra — one of the oldest prayers on earth. Sets the direction of an entire lifetime in three lines.
Universal
सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः । सर्वे भद्राणि पश्यन्तु मा कश्चित् दुःखभाग्भवेत् ॥
Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niraamayaah. Sarve Bhadraani Pashyantu, Maa Kashchit Duhkha Bhaagbhavet.
The metta of the Vedic tradition. Closes every ritual. Softens the heart in conflict; expands the sense of self.
The three worlds
ॐ भूः ॐ भुवः ॐ स्वः
Om Bhooh, Om Bhuvah, Om Svah
The Vyahrtis. Chanted before Gayatri, but also as a standalone grounding practice. Sends breath into feet, belly and crown in sequence.
