Manglik Dosha

मंगल दोष

Mars affliction that affects marriage timing and dynamics.

What Manglik Dosha is

Manglik or Mangal Dosha occurs when Mars is placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house from the Ascendant, Moon, or Venus. Mars in these houses is said to bring intensity, conflict, or delay to marriage.

Who has it

Roughly 50% of charts show some form of Manglik placement — it is far more common than the panic around it suggests. Severity depends on Mars's sign, dignity, aspects, and which reference point (Lagna, Moon, Venus) shows it.

What it does

Delayed marriage, temperamental partnerships, health issues to the spouse, or friction in married life. In modern Vedic reading, a strong well-placed Mars can also indicate a passionate, protective, and courageous spouse — Manglik is not automatically negative.

Is it really bad?

The classical texts warn against Manglik–non-Manglik marriages, but two Mangliks marrying each other, or a Manglik marrying after 28, is traditionally said to neutralize the dosha. Modern astrologers stress the whole chart matters far more than this single indicator.

Remedies

  • Chant Hanuman Chalisa daily, especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
  • Recite the Mangal Beej Mantra 108 times on Tuesdays.
  • Perform Kumbh Vivah or Vishnu Vivah ritual before marriage (traditional remedy).
  • Fast on Tuesdays and eat one satvik meal only.
  • Feed sweet red-lentil (masoor dal) roti to a dog on Tuesdays.
  • Offer red flowers and sindoor at a Hanuman temple.
  • Marry after the age of 28 when Mars matures.
