A Beginner's Guide to Meditation (the Vedic Way)

Forget the myths — meditation is not about stopping thoughts. Here is what the ancient texts actually teach.

Meditation the Vedic Way

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali describe dhyana — meditation — as effortless attention on a single object. Not force. Not blank mind. Effortless.

Start Simple

  1. Sit comfortably. Spine tall, shoulders soft.
  2. Choose your object: the breath, a mantra (So Hum is ideal), or a candle flame.
  3. When the mind wanders — and it will — gently return.
  4. That returning IS the meditation.

How Long?

Begin with 5 minutes daily. Consistency matters more than duration. A five-minute daily practice will outperform a two-hour session once a week.

When?

Brahma Muhurta — 96 minutes before sunrise — is considered the most potent window. But the best time is the time you will actually sit.

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः

Peace, peace, peace.
